Hello, Bases & Flyers!

The online calendar + insider deals password is acro123.

I’m at the World Nomad Games right now — basically the Olympics of this region, but with more horses, yurts, wrestling, eagles. I’m most excited for headless goat polo and arm wrestling. Both real sports.

So while the calendar says it’s the winddown of summer, I am clearly not there yet, and thankfully, the acro calendar agrees.

This week’s September edition is all about festivals: what’s happening soon, what’s worth planning ahead for, and the last big movement gatherings before the end of the year.

The insane opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games

So expect in today’s issue:

  • 🗓️ All Events Coming Up in the Next Two Weeks

  • ✈️ Plan Ahead: Festival Listings through January

  • 🌍 Beyond Acro: Cultural Festivals to Catch

🌍 BEYOND ACRO: Cultural Festivals to Catch in October

An idol of Maa Durga Devi at a temple in Mumbai, India during Navratri 2019

Lord of Miracles | Lima, Peru | Oct 5–Nov 1
Lima turns purple for one of the largest religious processions in the world, as crowds follow the image of Cristo Moreno through the streets with incense, flowers, music, and serious devotion. The big procession days are traditionally Oct 18, 19, and 28.

Navratri | India | Oct 11–19
Nine nights of devotion, dance, color, and celebration honoring the goddess Durga. In Gujarat, the nights come alive with garba and dandiya dancing, which is exactly the kind of “just one more song” situation that ruins your bedtime in the best way.

Ochi Day | Greece | Oct 28
Greece marks the famous “No” to Mussolini’s ultimatum with parades, flags, school marches, and a national mood of proud defiance. It’s history, patriotism, and very dramatic Mediterranean energy packed into one public holiday.

Next week: Related Fests where acro spills into circus, flow, dance, and movement culture.

Until then, fly elegantly and land somewhere gracefully (mostly) gracefully.
