This might be the first time I’ve experienced hail in June—not once, but twice. Kyrgyzstan clearly did not get the memo that summer has started.
Now I’m about to disappear into the mountains for a three-day horseback trek, which sounds scenic but an extremely questionable decision for someone who is not accustomed to spending three consecutive days in a saddle.
Wish my ass luck.

🌍 BEYOND ACRO: Cultural Festivals to Catch in July
Gion Matsuri | Kyoto, Japan | July 1–31
One of Japan’s most famous festivals fills Kyoto for the entire month of July with ceremonies, evening street celebrations, traditional dress, music, and enormous decorated floats. The two major float processions take place on July 17 and July 24.
San Fermín (Running of the Bulls) | Pamplona, Spain | July 6–14
The running of the bulls might get all the international attention, but the festival is much bigger than its most dangerous eight minutes. Pamplona turns red and white for nine days of street parties, fireworks, music, giants, parades, and the famous morning bull runs.
Comic-Con International | San Diego, California, USA | July 23–26
More than 135,000 comic, film, television, gaming, fantasy, and cosplay fans descend on San Diego for four days of panels, premieres, elaborate costumes, and lines that occasionally become their own civilization.
